Water – it’s as essential as the air we breathe and the food we eat. We use it for everything from drinking to hygiene. It cleans our bodies, our clothing and dishes. It keeps us from becoming dehydrated. And, yet, it’s an element that’s often taken for granted in our modern world because of the wide availability of water, from your tap or the store.
Being a society that runs almost primarily on grid-generated power, however, we are often just one power outage away from water that’s too contaminated for consumption, should it result in local water purification companies going offline.
Ask yourself the following:
- If there were a power shortage or extended water break in your area today, would you have enough water to get your family through the rough patch?
- If you do, do you also have purification methods in place to make it drinkable and healthy for other uses, such as first aid?
These are tough questions but also those we should both ask and have an answer for. Being prepared for a water shortage/outage can make all the difference in health and hygiene for the duration.
